Becoming Like Him

In case you missed it, our 2nd hour, second Sunday RS lesson was on the talk Becoming Like Him. I made a video and posted them to our new VERY secure YouTube server. You can only get to them with the links below. Video One Video Two Be on the lookout, we plan on making these videos every 2nd and 4th Sunday and emailing out links to them.  But in case watching a video isn't your thing, I had made up an overview of the talk if you will and posted it on our bulletin board at church. (Outside the bishops office.) Here it is! Becoming like Him By Elder Scott D. Whiting Of the Seventy In these times, when “all things [appear to] be in commotion; and … fear [is seemingly] upon all people,” 17 the only antidote, the only remedy, is to strive to be like the Savior… … the Savior’s admonition to be “even as I am” 1 is daunting and seemingly unattainable... you may find it mentally more comfortable to walk a path with no upward incline and little growth. A young minister, Charles M. Sheldon,...

The Ultimate Creamy Potato Soup

If you guys didn't notice, on our bulletin board each month we are going to feature a recipe. (There is a brown envelope that holds pintable's to take home!) Because feeding people is hard sometimes and its always good to have tried and true yummy things. But for those who aren't going to church to get a printable, we wanted to make sure there are other ways to access them. This months recipe was given to us by the wonderful Leah Kerr, (whom I could not do my calling without.) The Ultimate Creamy Potato Soup from the blog Sugar Spun Run (I cant post a picture because it is copyrighted but trust me, it looks AMAZING. And I have it on good authority from Cheryl Munger that ALL of her children ate it and loved it.) And here is a link to the printable recipe that I made. Make it and enjoy!

Relief Society Theme 2021

Image
The church comes out with yearly themes for our youth and for the primary children, but not for the adults. The stake however, has always encouraged us to come up with a goal or a statement for people to focus on during the year. Last year we chose a scripture from Nephi that said HOLD FAST. This turned out to be more poignant than any of us probably wanted. I asked my presidency to brainstorm some ideas for this year. When we had our last meeting and put all our ideas together it was amazing how similar they all were. And how they all came from our personal goals. Someone whose goal was to remember to "fear not for the Lord thy God is with thee." Someone else who just wanted to get their anxiety in check and find joy. So our Relief Society Theme for 2021 comes from a very personal place in our hearts, and from Doctrine and Covenants chapter 68 verse 6. Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you. We hope as we all work to ...

Take Them With You

When my husband was stationed in Washington my ward had a fifth Sunday lesson that was dedicated to, "how to make our sacrament meetings more reverent." Which inevitably devolved into, "how do we keep all these kids quiet?" Having, at the time, three kids under the age of 4, I felt a little attacked. So I sank further into my seat in the back, wondering if we should bother to ever sit in the chapel at all, when a sister raised her hand and made a comment that has stuck with me ever since. " I'm  a late in life convert, and I have six kids. Something I have noticed that is unique to our church is that we meet as families. A lot of other churches will have child care for their kids during their main meetings. But we don't. We meet as families. Because Heavenly Father wants our kids here, in sacrament." Fast forward a few years to Bishop Dusbabek calling me into his office and extending to me the calling of Relief Society President. Sisters you don...
